The Tangents of our Creative Minds

Working in a creative environment allows the minds of us at Waterloo Design to be naturally susceptible to random questions and thoughts because we are always looking for new ideas and inspiration. Since we are also always looking to further enrich ourselves and increase our knowledge, we feel pulled to investigate the answers to these questions.

Some questions that have popped up in the last week or so are:

Where do porcupines live?

What is a wombat?

Can you develop dyslexia or can you only be born with it?

The answers (as per our research) are as follows:

Porcupines are actually able to live in a variety of habitats and places so long as the weather isn’t cold (maybe that’s why they’re confusing everyone with their residential diversity). They are capable of living on the ground and in trees and inhabit continents such as Africa, Asia, and North America.

Wombats are a type of Australian marsupial that are also guilty of being terribly cute. They live underground, using their front teeth and claws to dig. Wombats are also avid herbivores. These critters may look slow and chubby but are actually capable of running up to 40 km an hour (that’s 24-25 mph).

It is possible to “develop” dyslexia, although it is primarily a disease passed down genetically. One can develop dyslexia through a traumatic event, such as a blow to the head. This is called trauma or acquired dyslexia.

As you can see, the Waterloo Design team has a well-rounded knowledge of everything from how to construct and design a gatefold brochure to how to properly spell cannoli (amongst other words). Although these questions may seem irrelevant, they are often directly inspired from and related to our current projects. After all, you never know when you will have to design your next wombat brochure.

Waterloodesign.net has been updated! Well, since our website is a digital piece, it literally can’t be “hot off the press” (but some of our projects are – make sure to check them out). Either way, we’ve added some of our latest projects and clients to our website to show our development, expansion, and continuation of creativity and good design in the current market.

We’ve also added a new team member’s portfolio (see previous post…hello Taryn Parker) as well as a page to showcase our community involvement.

Waterloo Design is pleased to welcome Taryn Parker to our Creative Team. Taryn joined us for an internship this summer and her attention to detail and work ethic work quickly realized. Being a D1 volleyball player, she had other commitments that prevented her from continuing with our team after her internship. Once season was over and she made contact with us we knew we needed to make a spot on our team for her. Taryn has an energetic creative spirit and a technical mind that is always thinking of the details. She is a great addition to our team......no we aren't just saying that because she bakes amazing cupcakes!!!!

Hello to everyone! At Waterloo Design we are proud to be a team of the 2010 Relay for Life in DeKalb County! The team along with friends and family will be walking the track of DeKalb highschool raising funds to help with cancer research for the American Cancer Society. Help out in your area and donate your time or resources to help your local Relay teams! This is the cause to help as we have all been effected directly or know a family member or friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Waterloo Design Proud Sponsors to Help Fight Cancer

Waterloo Design is proud to be the sponsor of the collaboration of the Steuben County Cancer Association, 98.9 The Bear and DeKalb Distributors cancer donation card fundraiser. Launching October 1st, all of DeKalb Distributors retailers will be selling the 98.9 The Bear cancer donation cards; black cards with The Bear logo are $1 and pink cards with The Bear logo are $5. All proceeds from this event will go 100% directly to cancer patients of Steuben County to assist in medical bills, medicine, and other needs. All people associated with the functioning of the Steuben County Cancer Association are working on volunteer base and all devote their heart to this honorable charity. Waterloo Design is grateful to be the sponsor of this event; we designed both donation cards and will be designing further advertisement for this event and also donating our time in creating the website for the Steuben County Cancer Association. More information about this event will be coming soon; make sure to check your local paper in DeKalb and surrounding areas as the entire collaborative group of Waterloo Design, Steuben County Cancer Association, 98.9 The Bear and DeKalb Distributors will be featured front page of the Lifestyle section of your paper this Sunday!

Getting Down To Business With A Morning Meeting And Some Lucky Charms

A kind surprise from our dear "Andy the Intern" Trevor on his last day before returning to school was a yummy bowl of Lucky Charms for all of the Creative Minds of Waterloo Design. Today we gathered around the rich cherry wood conference table (now the 'cereal table') each with a colorful bowl filled with Lucky Charms and discussed this weeks projects and goals. We all want to say a big thank you Trevor for the sweet thought and all your hard work that you managed to do seamlessly and always with a smile. We will miss you and we hope you return soon to keep us in line, spelling and all!
